Places worth visiting

• On the Island of Ostrów Tumski, surrounded by the waters of the Warta, stands the 10^th century cathedral containing the tombs of ancient Polish rulers.
• The Old Town Square is dominated by the town hall, a magnificent Renaissance building. Not far from the Market Square stands the former Jesuit church, the Fara, considered to be the most beautiful Baroque building in Poland.
• The Raczyńsky Palace houses is the oldest public library in Poland.
• Next to the Adam Mickiewicz University stands the Monument to the Victims of the Events of June 1956, commemorating one of the first mass-protests in Poland against the communist regime.
